This extensive collection of Lionel Smit's artworks opens with Everard Read Franschhoek on 12th December.
The idea behind Suspended is definitely a reaction of the times that we are currently living in.
The first sense of the idea is the fragments of paint that seem to be suspended in space. I imagine the paint assembling in sculptural form. I wanted to try and capture this thought - that it assembles shape and form.
Suspended also relates to our lives, in some form, and how it has been suspended during this Covid-related time. – LIONEL SMIT

Everard Read Franschhoek
Everard Read is South Africa's oldest and largest group of galleries. Established in 1913 in Johannesburg, the Everard Read galleries are specialists in contemporary art from South Africa and the diaspora.

There are two Everard Read galleries in Franschhoek. Everard Read Franschhoek on Huguenot Road was opened in 2016, bringing the finest contemporary art to the winelands. Everard Read on Franschhoek presents a year-round programme of solo and group exhibitions.
